Day 1: Arusha to Umbwe Gate and Trek to Umbwe Cave
Umbwe Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Cave Bivouac Camp (2,850m/9,350ft) Embark on your Kilimanjaro adventure as you depart Arusha at 8 am, bound for Umbwe Gate. Here, you'll be greeted by our team of porters, guides, and cooks, who will accompany you throughout your six-day trek to Uhuru Peak, the majestic summit of Africa. Take a moment at the gate while we complete the necessary registration for your climb, and as our crew makes final preparations. Your inaugural destination for the day is Cave Bivouac Camp, a journey of approximately 6 hours from the gate. The trail ahead is steep and occasionally slippery, winding through the enchanting moss-covered trees of Kilimanjaro's cloud forest. As you ascend, the forest gradually gives way to reveal heathers, tall grasses, and an array of vibrant wildflowers. Ahead of you, our dedicated porters and cooks will forge the path, ensuring that the camp is ready for your arrival. As you settle in for the night, surrounded by the tranquility of the mountains, you'll be treated to a hearty meal prepared by our team. Day 2: Umbwe Cave to Barranco Camp
Cave Bivouac (2,850m/9,350ft) to Barranco Camp (3,950m/12,960ft) Today's trek leads you further along the ridge, departing from the shelter of the forest into the expansive moorlands that lie ahead. Traverse through the open expanse, surrounded by breathtaking vistas, until you reach the renowned Barranco Camp. Nestled in a picturesque valley, Barranco Camp is celebrated as one of the most scenic campsites along the Umbwe Trail. Here, you'll find yourself surrounded by towering senecios and majestic lobelias, creating an atmosphere of unparalleled natural beauty. Due to its valley location, Barranco Camp experiences a delayed sunrise compared to other campsites, allowing you to savor the tranquil morning moments a little longer. As you settle into camp, take in the awe-inspiring surroundings and relish in the sense of accomplishment from the day's journey. Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Barranco Camp (3,950m/12,960ft) to Karanga Valley (4,200m/13,780ft) Rise and shine at Barranco Camp as you fuel up with breakfast before embarking on today's exhilarating journey to Karanga Valley. Your day commences with a thrilling ascent up the iconic Barranco Wall, a 1.5-hour scramble that presents the day's most challenging terrain. In sections where the climb becomes particularly steep, you may find yourself using your hands to aid your ascent, adding an extra element of adventure to your experience. Upon conquering the Barranco Wall, the trail levels out as you traverse through relatively even terrain, offering a well-deserved respite after the exhilarating climb. As you continue, you'll soon encounter a short yet steep descent into the verdant expanse of Karanga River Valley. With each step, you'll ascend in both elevation and spirit, surrounded by the natural beauty of Kilimanjaro's rugged landscape. As you arrive at Karanga Camp, take a moment to appreciate the magnificence of your surroundings and the progress you've made thus far. Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Karanga Valley (3,995m/13,080ft) to Barafu Camp (4,600m/15,100ft) Today's trek takes you from the serene beauty of Karanga Valley to the high-altitude encampment of Barafu, marking a significant step closer to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Along the way, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of Kibo's glaciers, including the imposing Heim, Kersten, and Decken Glaciers, as well as the junction that links the descent route, Mweka, with the Machame trail. As you ascend, the landscape transforms, revealing the rugged majesty of Kilimanjaro's high-altitude terrain. Despite the challenging conditions, the allure of the summit draws ever nearer, motivating your every step. Upon reaching Barafu Camp, situated at an elevation of 4,600 meters (15,100 feet), take a moment to acclimate to the thin air and marvel at the towering peaks that surround you. Here, you'll rest and prepare for the final push to Uhuru Peak, the pinnacle of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Back to Barafu
Barafu Camp (4,600m/15,100ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,340ft) to Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,170ft) As the clock strikes midnight, your momentous ascent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro begins from the comforts of Barafu Camp. Under the cloak of darkness, guided by the soft glow of your headlamp, you'll embark on the final leg of your journey to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. For the next six hours, you'll navigate the rugged terrain with determination and resolve, each step bringing you closer to the culmination of your Kilimanjaro adventure. The ascent to the crater rim is an arduous yet awe-inspiring endeavor, punctuated by the sheer magnitude of the surrounding landscape and the silent beauty of the starlit sky above. As dawn breaks on the horizon, casting its golden hues upon the snow-capped peaks, you'll stand triumphant atop Uhuru Peak, at an elevation of 5,895 meters (19,340 feet). Here, amidst the rarified air of the highest point in Africa, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views that stretch to the horizon, a testament to the indomitable spirit of human endeavor. Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Return to Arusha Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,170ft) to Mweka Gate (1,640m/4,920ft) After enjoying a hearty breakfast, it's time to bid farewell to the majestic slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro as you embark on the final leg of your journey. The descent from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate offers a beautiful conclusion to your Kilimanjaro adventure, as you meander through the lush splendor of Kilimanjaro's cloud forest. As you navigate the trail's twists and turns, be mindful of your footing, as the path may be slippery in places. With each step downward, you'll gradually leave behind the towering peaks and alpine vistas, returning to the embrace of the forest below. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, you'll have the opportunity to sign your name and details in the register book, marking the successful completion of your Kilimanjaro climb. Here, triumphant climbers receive their well-earned summit certificates, with those reaching Stella Point awarded Green Certificates and those summiting Uhuru Peak (5895m) presented with coveted Golden Certificates. Awaiting you at the lower station of Mweka Gate are our vehicles, ready to whisk you back to Arusha. As you journey back to civilization, take a moment to reflect on the extraordinary experiences and memories forged during your time on Africa's highest peak. Upon arrival in Arusha, indulge in a long-overdue hot shower, savor a delicious dinner, and relish in the comfort of a well-deserved rest.
